Im_flieger provides selected dance/performance artists with space for 4 weeks, as well as fees for research and production, and offers choreographic and transmedia works a supportive environment: logistical accompaniment, artistic coaching as well publication of the work results at the end of the residency.

Who can apply?

Artists based in Vienna working on a performative project or research in the field of dance and performance. Transdisciplinary and hybrid works with a focus on body-based practices are welcome. We provide residencies for 4–5 projects.

Support/ conditions:

  • Space for 4 weeks (approx 5 hours/day, 80-100 hours in total)
  • Location: Im_flieger, Bräuhausgasse 40, 1050 Wien (U4 Pilgramgasse)
  • Time frame: 2025
  • Fee: 1200 € (1 person), 1600 € (2 persons), 2400 € (from 3 persons)
  • Technical support (unfortunately we cannot consider projects with loud sound/music), max. 6h
  • Photo- and video documentation
  • Publication of the working results/work-in-progress in Vienna
  • Artistic coaching 10-15h (coach can be chosen by the participant)
  • Production consulting by Sophie Schmeiser, 2h (optional)
  • Support for project applications by Claire Lefèvre, 2h (optional)

Daniela Hernández (MX/AT) (sie/ihr) Mexican dancer and performer with a background in physical therapy and somatic work. Her current work centers around the themes of identity and migration, while exploring ecofeminism and the democratization of art as a tool for social change.

Evandro Pedroni (BR/AT) is a Brazilian performer, dancer and choreographer who lives in Vienna. He has recently performed in productions by Cocoon Dance, Akemi Takeya, Elisabeth Tambwe, Costas Kekis and Mzamo Nondlwana. Evandro’s works or collaborations have been shown at festivals such as ImPulsTanz, Imagetanz, Kultursommer Wien, PAD – Performance Art Depot (DE), FAKI 18 (HR) and have been supported by Tanzzentrale Nürnberg, Wien Kultur, WUK, brut Wien, Im_flieger, Bears in the Park, HochX Theater and Live Art (DE) and EinTanzHaus (DE).

Flóra Boros (HU/AT) is a performer and choreographer based in Vienna. Currently she works on collaborations as well as on solo projects. Her works have been shown at Muffathalle, Theater Akzent and Schwere Reiter. In 2021 she completed her studies in contemporary dance at the Music and Arts University of Vienna. She received a scholarship for Music and Performing Arts from the Austrian Ministry of Culture (2022) and a scholarship for her thesis about game theory from the Cultural Department of Vienna (2021). 

LIFT Kollektiv (AT/DE) Fia Neises’ artistic direction for “WITH OR WITHOUT YOU” (WOWY) was characterized by the close collaboration with the artists Irene Giró, Tanja Erhart and Liv Schellander. Irene Giró, an autodidact and co-choreographer, developed innovative methods of audio description and touch to integrate a non-visual Aerial Silk practice. Tanja Erhart, with her many years of experience as a disabled dancer and dramaturge, focused on pleasure as a radical interface between disability and feminism. Liv Schellander, an experienced dancer and choreographer, brought her expertise in Somatic Experiencing, among other things, to create a sensitive and intimate space for the rehearsal process of WOWY. Together they now form LIFT, a collective of queer and/or disabled artists who, through their collaboration, create new narrative and performative spaces to challenge and deconstruct standardized biographies.

Nina Sandino (NI/AT) (She/her/they) was born in Nicaragua in the Caribbean and grew up on the Pacific coast, where they later completed a master’s degree in architecture. In Vienna, Nina works as a choreographer, performerand dance educator. Their work reveals a desire to unite artistic expression and political statement. Oneka von Schrader (AT) studied choreography at the SNDO Amsterdam and was a participant in DAS Theatre. She works as a choreographer, performer and singer in the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria. She has worked for Tino Sehgal and in Jija Sohn’s Lands of Concert and Asa Horvitz’ Dream. Her own works have been shown at Bâtard Festival (Brussels), Les Urbaines (Lausanne) and 8:tension, ImPulsTanz (Vienna), among others.

Sunanda Mesquita (IN/CH/AT) (they/them/hers) Vienna-based, Goan-Swiss transdisciplinary visual artist, curator and Ayurvedic Wellness practitioner. Mesquita studied Education of the Arts and in the class of Dorit Margreiter Choy at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and is a co-curator and co-editor of Anti-Colonial Fantasies/Decolonial Strategies with Imayna Caceres and Sophie Utikal.
